Retina Foundation Presents New Data & Conclusions at ARVO 2018

The Retina Foundation of the Southwest research scientists recently attended the 2018 Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) meeting to share and learn about the latest advances in eye and vision research. The week’s presentations covered topics such as gene editing, advances in retinal imaging, and novel drug development. Retina Foundation researchers presented on many recent projects, including:

Development of the first patient-reported outcome measure for quality of life and functional vision designed for children with a broad spectrum of eye conditions.

Discovery that children with strabismus (crossed eyes), anisomteropia (unequal focus between the eyes), or both have unsteady fixation when looking with both eyes.

Reported evidence that treatment for both eyes in children with lazy eyes is more effective than patching in rehabilitating the fellow eye as well as the eye with low vision.

Update on the new technologies capable of identifying and quantifying rod function in the retina for patients with inherited retinal disease.

Reported on our evaluation of the safety and efficacy of a new drug for patients with a juvenile macular degeneration known as Stargardt disease.

This annual meeting is the largest gathering of eye and vision researchers in the world, with over 11,000 attendees from more than 75 countries. Learn more at www.arvo.org.
