9th Annual David R. Stager Sr., M.D. Lecture
Ewa Niechwiej-Swedo, Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo in Canada was our speaker for the David R. Stager Sr., M.D. Lecture that was held on Thursday, February 18, 2016. The research of Dr. Niechwiej-Swedo seeks to explain how the brain processes and combines sensory information during goal-directed movements. Specifically, she investigates the role of binocular vision in the development and control of eye-hand coordination and bimanual coordination (when the brain must simultaneously control multiple movements). Her research ties closely to the work being done here at the Retina Foundation of the Southwest where we conduct free reading and motor skills assessments that will allow us to inform our patients parents if their child reads slowly and if they have impairment in their fine and gross motor skills.
