Dr. Mark Pennesi will share how gene therapy is already restoring vision for patients with inherited eye diseases (IRDs) and has more than 30 new treatments in the pipeline, including breakthroughs for retinitis pigmentosa and Leber congenital amaurosis.

Breakthroughs in pediatric vision science have transformed lives, and the Retina Foundation has been at the forefront of that transformation. From continuing discoveries by Dr. Eileen Birch, whose pioneering research impacts clinical care for millions of children, to the cutting-edge gene therapy and gene editing work of Dr. Mark Pennesi, this panel explores the continuum of innovation in pediatric ophthalmology research.
