Yi-Zhong Wang, PhD

Dr. Yi-Zhong Wang specializes in visual science and physiological optics, concentrating his research on shape perception, perceptual organization, aging, amblyopia and macular degeneration. His work benefits numerous Retina Foundation labs as he is uncovering improved diagnostic tools for multiple eye issues.

Throughout his career, Dr. Wang has created innovative technologies and solutions to understand how the eye perceives shapes, curves and overlapping objects. His studies utilizing machine learning to research the progression of vision loss are groundbreaking. His patented FDA-approved iPhone app, myVisionTrackTM, enables an ophthalmologist to monitor a patient’s AMD progression remotely between appointments.

Dr. Wang has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications, holds two patents and has received numerous awards. He also serves as a faculty member at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
