The Retina Foundation of the Southwest invites applications for a full-time Medical Retina Clinician-Scientist with a specific interest in clinical trials and translational research in age-related macular degeneration and inherited retinal disorders.

The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative academic research environment focused on the development and evaluation of novel approaches to the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of retinal disease. Candidates with expertise or emerging interest in age-related macular degeneration, inherited retinal degenerations, retinal imaging, visual function testing, biomarkers, clinical trial endpoints, natural history studies, and therapeutic development are especially encouraged to apply.

The position offers the opportunity to participate in and help lead clinical trials, investigator-initiated studies, natural history protocols, and translational research programs in medical retina. The successful applicant will work closely with clinical investigators, vision scientists, imaging specialists, electrophysiology experts, genetic counselors, study coordinators, and collaborators from academic, foundation, and industry-sponsored research programs.

Responsibilities will include participation in clinical research activities, development of independent or collaborative research initiatives, enrollment and evaluation of patients in clinical studies, preparation of manuscripts and grant applications, presentation of research findings at national and international meetings, and contribution to the continued growth of the Retina Foundation’s clinical trials and retinal disease research programs.

Applicants must have an M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent degree and have completed an accredited ophthalmology residency and fellowship training in medical retina, vitreoretinal disease, inherited retinal disease, or a closely related retinal subspecialty. Candidates must be board certified or board eligible in ophthalmology and eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas. Prior experience in clinical trials, retinal imaging, inherited retinal disease, age-related macular degeneration, or translational clinical research is preferred but not required.
